For the 2009-10 band season, we’re partnering with SmugMug to host and archive the band photos. The information below will provide you with an overview of the features associated with the new site.

Already familiar with the new features? TAKE ME DIRECTLY TO THE PHOTO GALLERY

Just a couple of notes before we start the overview......

We are very interested in your feedback, suggestions for improving the site, or any issues you may encounter (ex: performance, etc.). You can contact us via email at feedback@ghsband.org.

Some of the galleries are very large and may take some time to load the first time you view them. After you view them for the first time, they should automatically be saved in your “browser cache” which means they should load faster the next time you view them. The speed of your internet connection will also have an influence on display times as well.

Since most of the internet connections today are high-speed, we’ve designed the site to use high quality versions of the photos. However, we do understand that there are a number of situations where low-speed internet connections are being used.

If you are having problems viewing the galleries, please checkout the instructions in the LOW-SPEED INTERNET VIEWERS section located at the end of this document.

GETTING STARTED:

When you first enter the Photo Gallery you will be presented with a list of the galleries available for viewing. Galleries will be posted newest to oldest.

To select a gallery click on the thumbail or name of the gallery.

VIEWING A GALLERY:

When you first enter the gallery you should see a page that contains thumbnails of the photos on the left and an enlarged version of the first photo on the right. It may take a few seconds for all of the photos to populate so please be patient.

If there are more thumbnails than can fit on a single page, multiple pages of thumbnails will be available as indicated at the top of the page just above the thumbnails. See additional information in the NAVIGATING THE SITE section of this document.

To scroll through the photos you can either use the PREVIOUS / NEXT buttons at the top of the screen or the LEFT / RIGHT arrow keys on your keyboard. If there are multiple pages of thumbnails, associated with the gallery you’re viewing, the next page of thumbnails will automatically be displayed as you scroll past the last photo on the current thumbnail page.

To display an even larger version of the photo, click on the enlarged version of the photo located on the right side of the page. To return to the thumbnail page click on the photo or press the ESC key.

If you would like to see a spectacular presentation of the photos, try the full-screen SLIDESHOW by selecting the SLIDESHOW option located in the upper-right corner of the screen. Additional information regarding the slideshow is available in the FULL SCREEN SLIDESHOW portion of this document.

If you would prefer a different style other than thumbnails, try some of the different options located in the STYLE tab located in the upper-right corner of the screen.

You can save a photo to your computer by moving your cursor over the enlarged version of the photo and selecting SAVE PHOTO from the fly-out menu on the right. Additional information is available in the SAVING/DOWNLOADING A PHOTO section of this document.

You can email a copy of a photo to a friend or family member by clicking on the SHARE tab in the upper-right corner of the screen. See the EMAILING section of this document for additional information.

You can vote for your favorite photos by selecting either THUMBS-UP or THUMBS-DOWN from the fly-out menu when you move your cursor over the enlarged photo.

If you are having difficulty with displaying the galleries, please check out the LOW-SPEED INTERNET USERS section of this document.

When you’re finished viewing a gallery, you can return to the GALLERY MENU by clicking on GO TO: GALLERY MENU at the top of the screen or “2009-10” in the navigation bar in the upper-left corner of the screen. You can also return to the GHS BAND WEB SITE by clicking on the link at the top of the screen.

SAVING/DOWNLOADING A PHOTO:

One of the newest features is the ability to save a full-size copy of the photo to your PC or MAC. There are (2) methods for saving a photo:

1. Move your cursor over the enlarged version of the photo. When the option menu appears click on the SAVE PHOTO option. This will save a full-size version of the image.

2. RIGHT-CLICK on the enlarged version of the photo. This is NOT the recommened way of saving a photo since this method will only save a low-quality version of the photo. Always use the SAVE PHOTO option if you want to save a full-size copy of the image.

If you click on one of the PHOTO SIZES a standalone version of the photo, based on the size selected, will be displayed.

GALLERY VIEWING OPTIONS:

There are several ways to view a gallery. You can experiment with the various options by clicking on the STYLE tab in the upper-right corner of the page. You will see a list of options available to you. The default should be the SmugMug style.

Please keep in mind that it may take some time for the photos to load and be displayed so please be patient.

EMAILING A PHOTO:

If you would like to email a copy of the photo or a link to a friend or family member click on the SHARE tab in the upper-right corner of the page. (See illustrations below)

FULL SCREEN SLIDESHOW:

The final tab on the right is the SLIDESHOW tab which displays a full screen slideshow of your current gallery.

Since the files are fairly large, the slideshow may take some time to start, so please be patient.

Once the first photo is displayed, you should see a set of thumbnails populated near the top of the screen along with left/right arrows on the left/right side of the screen.

The slideshow should start automatically. You can control the speed of the slideshow by moving your cursor over the photo and selecting slow/medium/fast from the option bar near the upper-left portion of the screen.

You can also choose to manually step through the photos by using the left/right arrows. You can pause the slideshow by pressing the pause icon in the middle of the photo.

To display the pause icon, left/right arrows, or thumbnails just move your cursor over the photo.

You can return to the normal view of your gallery by pressing RETURN TO GALLERY in the upper-right corner of the screen.

If you find that the galleries are loading slowly, you can choose to display a smaller version of the photos.

Click on the STYLES tab in the upper-right corner of the screen. Next select TRADITIONAL from the options listed.

A page of thumbnails will appear.....click on any of the thumbnails.......

A page similar to the one displayed below will appear........

Just below the photo you should see an option bar to set SIZES......

You can select Small, Medium, Large, or Original based on your personal preference. Once you find a setting that works for you, you can set YOUR PREFERRED SIZE to Small, Medium, Large, Original by clicking on the appropriate option.

There are (2) ways to save a copy of the photo.

1. Select SAVE PHOTO. This will save the full-size version (Original) of the photo even though you may be viewing the photo at a smaller size.

2. RIGHT-CLICK on the photo. Using this method will save a version of the photo equal to the size you are viewing. So, if you are viewing the small version of the photo you will download a small version by right-clicking on the photo.

Always use the SAVE PHOTO if you want to save the full-size image.

To go back to the thumbnails, click on “2009-10” in the navigation bar located near the top-left portion of the screen. You can also use the STYLE tab to experiment with other options that are available.
